Instructions

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter, icing sugar, and vanillin sugar (or vanilla aroma) until light and fluffy. In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and custard powder until well combined.

Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, mixing well after each addition, until a smooth dough is formed.

Shape the dough into a ball and wrap it in plastic wrap.

Place it in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes to chill.

Once the dough has chilled, remove it from the refrigerator and unwrap it.

On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to a thickness of about 1/4 inch (6 mm).

Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).

Using dolphin-shaped cookie cutters, cut out dolphin shapes from the rolled-out dough. Place the dolphin-shaped cookies onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving some space between them.

Gather the remaining dough scraps, reroll them, and continue cutting out dolphin shapes until all the dough is used. Place the baking sheet with the dolphin-shaped cookies in the preheated oven and bake for approximately 10-12 minutes, or until the edges of the cookies are lightly golden.

Once baked, remove the cookies from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes. Then, transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Decorate the Baked Dolphin Cookies

Once the dolphin cookies have cooled, it’s time to unleash your creativity and transform them into stunning edible works of art. There are numerous ways to decorate these cookies, and we tried out various methods to bring our dolphin-shaped treats to life. Here are some of the techniques we used:

Decorating materials for dolphin cookies

Icing Sugar

We prepared a mixture of icing sugar and water, adding a few drops of rose, grey, and blue food coloring to create a palette of captivating colors. Using a piping bag or a small spoon, we carefully coated half of the dolphin cookies with the colored icing sugar mixture, allowing the hues to blend together beautifully.

Sprinkles

To add delightful texture and whimsy, we sprinkled different types of colorful sprinkles onto the freshly coated icing sugar. Some dolphins had vibrant rainbow-colored sprinkles, while others were adorned with shimmering metallic ones, lending a touch of magic to our creations.

Edible Glitter Spray

For a touch of enchantment, we used edible glitter spray to give our dolphin cookies a mesmerizing silvery dust effect. A few spritzes of the glitter spray elevated the cookies to a whole new level of sparkle and elegance, making them even more captivating.

Edible Markers

To showcase our artistic skills, we left some of the dolphin cookies without icing sugar coating and instead decorated them directly using edible markers. With these colorful markers in hand, we drew intricate patterns, added details, and even personalized some dolphins with names or fun messages. The possibilities were endless, and each cookie became a unique masterpiece.

Throughout the decorating process, my kids were completely engrossed, enjoying every moment of crafting these dolphin cookies. Their imaginations soared as they experimented with different colors, designs, and techniques. The cookies quickly transformed into adorable creations with eyes, unicorn horns, hats, and other whimsical embellishments.

With a sense of pride and accomplishment, my little artists stood back to admire their handiwork. The dolphin cookies now bore their personal touch, reflecting their individuality and creativity. It was a truly magical experience, witnessing their joy and the satisfaction of seeing their edible artworks come to life.
