This is a teaching method when young children learn to read by matching the sounds of the letters with the words they hear. This system is called “phonic learning.”
Phonic instruction emphasizes learning to recognize letter sounds and spell words using these sounds. Letter recognition, word decoding, fluency, and comprehension are all improved through phonics instruction.
